Diving into the colorful complexity of the creative mind of Owen Ward will leave you thinking, “what am I looking at?” As a current sophomore at Appalachian State University, Owen Ward is immersing himself in a world of detail oriented work in the field of graphic design. Currently he is woking on earning his bachelor's degree in graphic design and apparel design, and he hopes to eventual acquire his master’s in Illustration. As he continue to embark on an artistic journey, he is able to discover new perspectives and aesthetics to include within his work. He currently considers himself a pop artist, but is abundantly flexible within his field and loves to experience all types of mediums. Owen does not shy away from a challenge and believes that detail oriented work leads to success. He draws a lot of influence from artists such as Andy Warhol, Roy Lichtenstein, and Jen Stark. A lot of Owen’s work focuses on women’s fashion and the effect time has on the evolution of clothes. As a graduate of the SCAD Rising Star program, where he obtained a 4.0 GPA, he was able to grasp a new understanding for the art field as a whole. Winning awards such as a Scholastic’s Gold Key, honorable mention at Mint Hill Arts, and a gold ribbon in the Tar-heel Awards.
He is absolute astonished by the support he as has been given by his family and friends. As an advocate for gay rights, through his work, he encourages others to do and create what fuels their creative passions. Creativity is a gift in which we have to expand our own unique ideas. Owen Ward plans on continuing his craft and make the world a more colorful and creative place.
